This exhaust makes the system louder as it removes the standard resonator or PPF filter on later models and both resonators on earlier models and therefore, offers a significantly sportier exhaust note. All relevant fittings and gaskets are supplied for fitment and to revert back to the standard exhaust. Fitment to later M140i models which have the PPF filter as standard will require basic engine tuning at time of fitment to cancel the EML light. Press Release With its potent, 335bhp turbocharged engine and an engaging chassis, the latest BMW M140i delivers a thrilling driving experience, all wrapped up in a stylish and solidly built package. However, there's always room for a little improvement. As with all new models, the M140i is fitted with a PPF (petrol particulate filter), which limits the potential of that fantastic 3.0-litre straight six engine, leading to a muted and slightly disappointing sound. Cobra Sport's engineers have developed a solution in the form of their new PPF Delete. This high-quality, 3in (76.2mm) mandrel-bent pipe features TIG-welded hangers and removes a significant restriction in the exhaust system. The main brief was to improve the sound and unleash the full potential of that straight-six engine. Following intensive development, Cobra Sport have delivered a product that truly awakens the sound of the M140i, while also improving gas flow. The exhaust now emits a deep and vibrant tone, especially evident under load, while under deceleration, there's now an audible burble, accompanied by pops and bangs. This simple, but effective upgrade completely changes the character of the car, giving it a more sporty and thrilling sound with a 7.5% dB increase. A direct replacement for the OEM part, the Cobra Sport PPF Delete is the most cost-effective way to improve the sound of the stock M140i. A simple ECU reflash will be required at the time of fitting to prevent engine warning lights illuminating. A Centre Resonator Delete Pipe is also available for earlier, pre-PPF M140is, which delivers similar improvements, but without the need for an ECU reflash. Designed and manufactured to uncompromising standard, Cobra Sport have matched performance improvements with re-defined sound to offer an exciting package for M135i owners. The Cobra Sport research and development team quickly made the decision to base the new performance exhaust systems for the BMW M135i on 3" (76.2mm) T304 stainless steel pipework. This pipework allows the engine to breathe and contributes to our aim for the largest natural performance improvements. Independent testing of the non resonated cat back system revealed impressive gains of +10bhp along with 16 lb ft of torque. The outstanding power results are complemented by a significant weight advantage with the Cobra Sport system weighing only 16.32kg giving a 20% decrease from the OEM weight of 20.38kg. The new cat back exhausts offer a significant weight advantage with the Cobra Sport system weighing only 16.32kg giving a 21% decrease from the OEM weight of 20.75kg. The sound of the new Cobra Sport exhausts boast vastly improved tonal characteristics with the non resonated cat back exhaust offering a deeper more aggressive sound with an overall increase of +4.6dB to 86.8dB on the static 4,000rpm sound test. Within the cabin the redefined sound remains comfortable registering 81.6dB under full load. The new systems for the M140i are based around a cat back configuration with the option for either a resonated or louder non resonated centre section. These cat back systems can be matched with a choice of replacement front pipe options in the form of either a sports cat or a de-cat pipe to create the most dynamic sound track. Testing of the standard M140i revealed power figures of 327 whp and 367 lbft. Working in conjunction with one of our tuning partners AET Motorsport, we installed the Cobra Sport turbo back system (with de-cat) on the AET Motorsport development car and ran further power testing. With the Cobra Exhaust installed, the M140i recorded 349.2 whp and 389.9 lb-ft, an increase of 22 whp and 23 lb-ft with a fantastic sound track to match. Taking this one step further, AET installed Burger Motorsport JB4 and the EWG loom and ran dyno power runs on map 1,2 and 5. The best results were seen to be on Map 5 where the BMW M140i produced 423 whp and 453 lb-ft this means an overall increase of 96 whp and 86 lb-ft over the stock vehicle. These slip-on 3.5" (88.9mm) exhaust tips have been specially designed as a direct replacement to fit the full range of F chassis BMWs. The tips have a larger than standard diameter of 3.5", substantially enhancing the looks of the existing BMW exhaust. The stock BMW tailpipes are prone to rust after a period of time, the premium materials used in these replacement tips eradicate these issues. The slip-on design make these replacement tailpipes quick and easy to install. Please note: this item comes with a one year warranty.
